What we do
We are a charity in Greater Manchester helping the residents of Stockport, Manchester and Trafford access quality, subsidised technology. 95% of the laptops and desktops we have, come from our fantastic business partners. We take that technology and refurbish it to high standards, making it available to you for a small fee to cover the refurbishment costs.
We are also an official Microsoft 3rd party refurbisher, partnered with a UK approved Authorised refurbisher. This gives us access to affordable, genuine Microsoft licenses for Windows and Office, so you know every device we home, is correctly and legally licensed.
We want to try and help as many households as possible. – however, as the number of devices we have is limited, we are only able to help with 1 device per household.
We update our available device list every Thursday at 5pm.
How it works
on itOur listings are deliberately generic and are designed to offer a minimum specification that will smoothly run Windows 11 and Microsoft Office.
The minimum spec we offer is:
- A processor capable of being Windows 11 compatible (typically an Intel 8th generation or higher)
- 8GB RAM (or higher)
- 128GB SSD (or higher)
- Windows 11 Pro
- Microsoft Office 2019 (lifetime license)
Some units will have additional functions, such as cellular connectivity capability, touchscreens etc. But we can’t guarantee these features.
Making an offer
We will have a short conversation about what you need the device for, how you plan to use it etc. This helps us to decide on the most suitable device we can offer you. In some circumstances we may only have a single model or type available.
If you have any health considerations that you’d like us to consider when offering you a device then please let us know. For example, someone with arthritis may require a smaller, lighter device. Someone with visual impairment may require a brighter, larger display. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.
We will discuss the specifications of the device we are offering you. Unless there is a good reason, we will only make the one offer.
Once we have offered
Our offering is designed to get you online with a quality, quick and capable device – everything we have on our scheme will do that. We encourage anyone in need of a device on this scheme to accept the offer, but should you decide it’s not for you, we will ask you to wait at least 1 month before trying again. This allows us to help those who can accept the devices we have available.
If you do accept the offer, that’s fantastic!
Bringing your evidence
We will need to see evidence of your low-income and something with your name and address on it. A full list of acceptable forms for evidence, can be found on the eligibility page.
- If you are collecting this in person, you can bring your evidence with you.
- If you need us to send the device out for delivery, we will invite you to a secure platform via an email. Here, you can register with us and send over your documents using a GDPR compliant platform that automatically deletes anything you send to us in 14 days.
Payment
Payment can be made by card over the phone, or cash/card in person at our store in Stockport.
Warranty and Returns
Warranty / Returns
We do our very best to make sure your device is fully working before making it available. However, sometimes things can go wrong. A faulty charger, a camera not working correctly, a battery not holding charge can be frustrating. No need to worry, we have any issues covered. We have a 14 day returns promise and a 1 year warranty to make sure we take care of any issues you have.
Within 14 days – You have 14 days to change your mind on any device ordered from us for a full refund. This date starts from the date you receive the device. The device will need to be reset back to factory defaults and any personal accounts, locks, passwords or other security features removed from the device before returning it to us. We reserve the right to reject any refund request if this has not been completed.
After 14 days – Should anything go wrong with your device, you are covered by a 1 year warranty. This warranty covered any defects or faults arising from normal expected use of the device, such as a flickering screen or failed drive, but does not cover accidental or intentional damage covered by deliberate acts, neglect or improper use.
Any items needing to be repaired under warranty need to be returned to our Stockport store for repair. You are responsible for ensuring the device is returned to us safely either in person or via a tracked courier service, that contains insurance to cover the device against loss or damage in transit.
Once we receive your device back we will assess the device for any issues and look to repair the device where possible. Should we be unable to repair the fault, we will look to then replace it with a like-for-like or better model. Failing that we may, as a final resort offer a refund, at our discretion.
It will then be your responsibility to collect the device from us once it is ready to go back to you.
